For industrial use in harsh environments, connector systems are needed that meet special requirements.
Data communication and control systems do not stop at outdoor use. Connectors in the field have to cope with UV radiation, ozone, dry cold, damp heat, rain, snow, hail, freezing, dust, salt spray and wind load.
CONEC offers a large portfolio of water resistant D-SUB connectors and hoods with IP67 protection for these applications. The series are characterised by special sealing measures on the connector as well as on the sealing frame, the use of high-quality materials and a particularly robust design.
In the field of IP67 D-SUB connectors, CONEC not only offers a wide range of position numbers, mounting and termination variants, but also the option of choosing between 3 different types of housing depending on the application:
• CONEC SlimCon
• Solid Body
• Standard housing
The advantage of the Solid body and CONEC SlimCon connector series are their one-piece zinc die-cast housing with nickel-plated surface, which ensures optimum protection for the system and is characterised by robustness. The CONEC SlimCon series also scores with its very small dimensions.
While the standard housing is sealed by the sealing frame, an O-ring is used in the Solid Body series. In the smallest IP67 D-SUB connector series, CONEC uses a flat seal.
IP67 D-SUB CONEC SlimCon Connectors
… elegant, small and robust
IP67 D-SUB CONEC SlimCon Connectors are available in housing sizes 1 to 3 as male and female versions and in the Standard, High Density and Combination series. Due to their very small design and the one-piece zinc die-cast housing, they are ideally designed for industrial and harsh environments where minimal installation space is available.
Compared to an IP67 protected connector with an extended sealing frame, a reduction of the occupied area of up to 52% is achieved. The size of the housing corresponds to the standard dimensions of a D-SUB connector, so a 1:1 conversion from IP20 to IP67 interfaces is also possible.
Four contact surfaces ensure that the connectors are always mounted evenly with the existing seal on the unit wall. Thus, excess pressure at the sealing is avoided and safe assembly at the customer’s is ensured. CONEC SlimCon connectors are designed for an wall thickness of 0.8 to 1.3 millimetres.
IP67 D-SUB CONEC Solid Body Connectors
… robust, versatile and suitable for larger wall thicknesses
The IP67 D-SUB CONEC Solid Body Connectors connector series is available in housing sizes 1 to 5 as male and female versions. The one-piece zinc die-cast housing also makes this series suitable for industrial and harsh environments. The connectors are designed for rear wall mounting and have a 4-40 UNC internal thread. Corresponding threaded bolts are included as standard with the products. CONEC Solid Body connectors are available from 09-pos to 25-pos. (Standard) and 15-pos to 78-pos. (High Density) and also in many combination layouts. Solid body connectors are suitable for wall thicknesses from 1.0 to 1.6 mm.
IP67 D-SUB Hoods are available in housing sizes 1 to 5 and can accommodate various cables with a diameter of 7 to 16 mm, depending on the size. In addition to a very compact hood, the portfolio also includes variants with a large interior and protective caps. The IP67 D-SUB hood versions are available shielded and unshielded – alternatively with short screw or jack screw.
Fields of application:
CONEC IP67 D-SUB connectors are used, for example, in traffic safety. They ensure reliable signal transmission in camera systems of police motorcycles. In addition to resistance to weathering, vibration resistance is also important here.
IP67 D-SUB connectors from CONEC are also used in the field of agricultural technology. They guarantee secure data transmission in GPS systems for precise positioning of tractors or corresponding fertiliser, trailers/components. In railroad technology, IP67 D-SUB connectors are used in the field of mobile communication technology, e.g. in a control panel for analog and digital train radio, but also in mobile information systems and stationary radio stations.
When used in civil aviation, not only is there limited installation space available, but the connectors used must also meet particularly high quality requirements. Reliable signal transmission on autopilots with servo-motor components must even in the event of thermal shocks.
